Today’s berry harvest:

Blueberries 4lbs 12 oz
Blackberries from the other day 1lb ?oz (we ate a bunch before I weighed)
Blackberries from today 1lb 12oz

Lots of lost berries thanks to the rain and not picking them fast enough.

Several folks have asked how I keep the birds away, answer is I don’t! We have 8 bushes (9? can’t recall) and I think there’s just an abundance that even after the birds there are plenty left for us.

Tonight's berry haul: 5lbs 4oz of blueberries, 10oz of blackberries and raspberries, and so many still left to pick that I invited the nextdoor neighbors to come pick too. Blackberries are either late this year or just not as productive.

For those who may be wondering: the frost cloth I covered most of the blueberry bushes with when we had that late freeze in March seems to have made zero difference.

Pretty sure ceiling fans were invented for kitchens. This saves us from using our AC as much during the summer and is perfect for keeping cool when you bake or run the slow cooker.

Always a good day when the @men_in_mulch truck pulls up! I met Brian through IG a few years ago when I was in the trenches of gardening with littles and not sure how I would ever get my garden beds mulched.

Now my toddlers stay entertained watching them blow the mulch into place! In addition to mulch they can blow in top soil, compost, and grass seed mix. Excited to have them back this fall to give our lawn a much needed reseed!

My grandmother's funeral was today. She was who gave me this love of gardening and farming with summers spent chasing her cows and goats and eating endless blueberries right off the bush.

She will be missed. But every spring flower will forever be a sweet reminder of her 🩷
